MANILA, Philippines — Real estate and mall magnate Manuel B. Villar Jr. plans to expand his empire to include gaming, industrial leasing and infrastructure as the family hopes to hitch a ride on the country’s booming economy.

Villar, the country’s seventh richest man according to Forbes, is into various businesses such as malls, homes, hotels and memorial park.

In a recent briefing, his son Manuel Paolo Villar, president and CEO of Vista Land & Lifescapes Inc. said the family is looking at other sectors.

“Our family is seriously looking into gaming. The prospects of responsible gaming in the country are good,” the younger Villar said.

Paolo said the company may get a foreign partner just like what the other local firms have done.

Aside from gaming, the family is also eyeing the infrastructure industry, particularly airports.

His brother, Mark Villar is the Secretary of the Department of Public Works and Highways.

Industry sources told The STAR that the Villar Group is eyeing a mass housing project from the government.

Villar-led Golden Haven Inc. recently changed its name to Golden Bria Holdings Inc., as part of its diversification into mass housing.

Aside from gaming and infrastructure, the Villar group will also engage in the telecommunications business.
